Case for Support

Imagine a gender equal Baptist world.

This is a world in which women in ministry are wanted, not just permitted. A world in which women in ministry are celebrated, not just tolerated, a world in which women in ministry thrive, not just survive. While important progress has been made, there are still scores of women in Baptist life who suffer the cuts and burns of enduring patriarchy and gender inequity.

Until our envisioned world is real and every woman is uplifted, BWIM promises to support women as they seek opportunities to minister out of their full gifting, and to advocate for the full affirmation of women in ministry and leadership in Baptist life.

Brief Biblical Case

For many Baptist churches today, how women serve in ministry leadership roles continues to be a debated topic.

Can women serve as deacons? Can women be ordained? Can women have leadership or teaching roles over men? Can women preach or be pastors? These are questions that have been the source of conflict for decades, and at the heart of the matter is how we interpret biblical passages related in women’s roles and leadership.
