When I first felt called to ministry, I had a sinking feeling in my gut. I wish I could say I was excited or felt empowered, but truthfully, I was confused. I knew congregational ministry was my passion, but I had no examples of women minsters in my life. As I tried to model my calling after those I had seen, it didn’t fit. It felt wrong. I didn’t think I could be my true self and be a minister. Until Baptist Women in Ministry.
I still remember the day when I was introduced Pam Durso and BWIM. Logsdon Seminary was hosting their annual Women in Ministry Conference, and I was wrestling with a decision to further explore the pastorate. Without BWIM, I am not sure I would have had the guts or the support to do it. BWIM gave me a network of incredible people who came alongside me as I began to discern my unique pastoral voice. BWIM continues to encourage me when I am feeling overwhelmed by the weight of ministry and provides a safe space for me to bring my whole self.
I give monthly to BWIM, because the organization advocates, supports, and equips women who feel called but aren’t sure what to do next. Because of Baptist Women in Ministry, fewer and fewer women have call experiences like mine.
I give so our girls will know without a doubt that they are what a minister looks like.”—Brittany McDonald Null is interim assistant pastor, First Baptist Church, Columbia, Missouri
